How Can We Help?

Choosing the correct Meeting Registration Type: Group or Non-Group

When you create a meeting with Online Registration, you can choose between 2 types of registration flows, using the Group Registration: Yes/No field.

Group Registration

  • User can just register themselves, or can simultaneously register multiple attendees, including an option to let them set ‘placeholders’ if they don’t know the names of the others coming but want to save slots for them
  • User must go through the payment page and THEN the registration gets submitted. If the user stops at the payment page, the registration is still unsubmitted/abandoned. So if the association is only offering payment by credit card, then the user must pay before registering (if check/wire is offered as an option, then user can get through without paying by choosing one of these other payment methods)
  • Newer registration flow that was introduced in 2012

Original ‘classic’ registration

  • Linear registration flow; user registers one attendee, then starts all over again to register a second attendee
  • The registration gets submitted and THEN the user is directed to the payment page. If the user then closes the browser at this point, they are registered without paying. Our original ‘beta’ clients liked it this way and so it got built this way. It would be nearly impossible to change this flow at this point, especially as some clients still want it this way: they’d rather the person register and the association can get the money later.
