How Can We Help?

Information About Impersonation

Here is information about impersonation …

What is Impersonation?

The ability to login as someone else in the database without knowing their password.

Who can do it?

Impersonation is enabled for all MatrixMaxx databases and allows any user with ‘SiteAdmin’ privilege group level access to impersonate another user.

I’m a SiteAdmin! How do I impersonate someone?

First, make sure that you yourself are not already logged into the site that you wish to log into as the other person, or go to a different web browser (e.g., if you are logged in on FireFox, open up an Internet Explorer browser to do your impersonation.)

Next, log in using this pattern:

  • Username:[User name of the individual being impersonated]
  • Password:[SiteAdminUsername]:[SiteAdminPassword]
  • No brackets or spaces are needed but the password does need to have a colon between the Sitedmin username and the Sitedmin password.
  • Once logged in, you have the access to all pages as this individual would see/access them.

Example:

  • Katherine is a site admin.
  • Her username is: Adminkitty
  • Her password is: kitty123pouncegojump

She wants to impersonate Joe Smith, whose username is jsmith

She logs in with:

  • username: jsmith
  • password: Adminkitty:kitty123pouncegojump

and she is effectively logged in as Joe Smith, but MatrixMaxx knows she is actually Katherine.

How are activities and changes being tracked when someone is being impersonated?

Activities and Change History stamps are being tracked, with both the impersonated individuals’s name and the person doing the impersonation. The impersonator name is indicated in (italics).
